Renowned for its white sandy beaches and turquoise blue water, in the past named the “city of salt” in reference to its salt marshes which are no longer exploited, Porto-Vecchio is still home to many surprises! Béatrice Bacci cultivates “Saffron from Porto-Vecchio” Hailing from Porto-Vecchio, and a teacher by trade, Béatrice Bacci grew up in a family where cultivating the land was a part of daily life, it was natural, almost necessary. Deeply attached to this land, that of her ancestors and passionate about agriculture, Béatrice seeks to combine work with pleasure… It was in 2010 that her husband Gérald had a brainwave! He offered her a training placement in cultivating saffron. She returned completely under the charm of these flowers with their ephemeral beauty and unique scent.

The small family holding is now in its fourth year of production of “Saffron from Porto-Vecchio”. The saffron farm undertakes to respect the strictest of quality criteria. The entire production of this fragile flower is undertaken by hand, from planting to rooting and pruning. The cultivation is entirely organic and drying is controlled. The pure stigmas of Saffron, without colour or conservative are subject to chemical testing fulfilling international ISO / TS 3632 standards. These have allowed “Saffron from Porto-Vecchio” to be classified under the superior quality category 1. Finally, an ultimate reward! This has been recognised by many Michelin-starred chefs who refine their dishes thanks to its unique colour and scent of the scrubland.
